1.) Make sure that you research any company you are interested in.

2.) Never pay for work. If you have to pay for it chances are it is not legit. Only a small handful of company require a payment up front. It's usually to cover a background check, or incorporation fees.
3.) Be careful of the information you send to craiglist postings. Some people or organizations make a commission for your interest in a job lead. Be mindful of the information you submit. If you see something you are interested in, just send a letter of interest. This doesn't include any personal information, just your email address. You can word your letter to include the fact that other information will be sent upon request.
4.) Be sure to follow up. Remember for each job you apply to, there were about another 1,000 other people who applied to the same position. If you dont get an immediate respose, follow up after a week. Send the hiring person an email. If the company has contacted you by phone, give them a call. They are busy hiring, so you have to make yourself noticable, but don't be a bug a boo.
